Now Place 此间 is an artist-run bookstore, RISO print studio, publishing project and multilingual art community art space in San Francisco’s Chinatown.

At our core—We believe art should not only belong to institutions or markets, but also to friendship, daily life, mutual support, and cultural memory.

A large part of our work is creating opportunities for people to encounter one another — to print together, eat together, make together, and imagine together. We host workshops, talks, pop-ups, screenings, and community events both within our Chinatown space and through collaborations beyond it.

Through residencies, events, and publishing projects, we invite artists, writers, and neighbors to make with us. Every zine, event, or shared meal becomes part of a collective archive that honors Asian diaspora, queer, feminist, and immigrant voices, while welcoming collaborators from all backgrounds.

ABOUT

Our mission is simple:
To make books, art, and community inseparable — and to hold space for the small worlds that connect us.

ABOUT OUR LOGO

The spirit of Now Place draws from the mythical creature, yàyú (窫窳) — not a hero, but something far more nuanced. The yàyú’s ambiguous form, two threads, imperfect and misshapen, stretch out as alternatives to rigid, conventional measures, challenging the need to fit within predefined norms.

Inspired by yàyú’s spirit, Now Place is a living experiment, suspended between commerce and creativity, retail and art, where artists and creators from the Asian diaspora can meet, share, and play.
