Now Place 此间 is an artist-run bookstore, independent publisher, print studio, and multilingual community art space in San Francisco’s Chinatown.

At our core is creation — of books, of art, of food and drink, of gatherings, and of new ways of being together. We see publishing not just as producing objects, but as an act of care, resistance, and imagination.

Through residencies, events, and publishing projects, we invite artists, writers, and neighbors to make with us. Every zine, event, or shared meal becomes part of a collective archive that honors Asian diaspora, queer, feminist, and immigrant voices, while welcoming collaborators from all backgrounds.

ABOUT

Our mission is simple:
To make books, art, and community inseparable — and to hold space for the small worlds that connect us.

ABOUT OUR LOGO

The spirit of Now Place draws from the mythical creature, yàyú (窫窳) — not a hero, but something far more nuanced. The yàyú’s ambiguous form, two threads, imperfect and misshapen, stretch out as alternatives to rigid, conventional measures, challenging the need to fit within predefined norms.

Inspired by yàyú’s spirit, Now Place is a living experiment, suspended between commerce and creativity, retail and art, where artists and creators from the Asian diaspora can meet, share, and play.
